Recycling

Recycling is now mandatory in the Borough of Pompton Lakes. All persons, firms, corporations and other entities, whether public or private, shall be subject to the mandatory recycling provisions of Chapter 160B of the Administrative code of the Borough of Pompton Lakes.  

Recycling Center Information


The Borough Recycling Center is open to all Borough residents and businesses. Residents and businesses must obtain a Recycling Center Decal which must be shown to the attendant upon entering the Center. Recycling Permit stickers required, for more information contact office.

Be advised that leaving materials at the Recycling Center gate is considered illegal dumping and punishable by fine and/or imprisonment.

Biodegradable Bags


Biodegradable paper bags are available at the Recycling Center facility. The cost of these bags are $0.35 cents per bag.


Acceptable Items


Plastics & Containers


  • Acceptable co-mingled materials includes all types of plastic
  • Aluminum food and beverage containers (includes Styrofoam)
  • Glass Food and Beverage Containers
  • Plastics with the number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 in a triangle
  • Tin cans
  • Wax-coated Containers (milk and orange juice cartons)

Paper Products


  • Cardboard boxes and tubes (paper towels and toilet paper)
  • Cereal boxes
  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Electronic Equipment
  • Junk Mail
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers
  • Paper and cardboard recycling (in a separate bin)
  • Pizza boxes
  • Soft cover and hard cover books (with cover ripped off)
  • Tires
    Tires may be brought to the Recycling Center at a cost of $2.50 per tire without the rim and $5 per tire with the rim.

  • Wrapping Paper
